The Corydon L. and Nancy R. Somes Scholarship was established by Michelle Somes-Booher and her husband, Douglas Booher, in honor of Michelle’s parents and their enduring connection to Lake Superior State University.
Corydon and Nancy Somes graduated from Sault Ste. Marie High School and attended the Sault Branch of Michigan College of Mining and Technology, later Lake Superior State College. Cory earned his degree in 1967 as part of the first four-year class, later served on the LSSC Board of Control, and was recognized as an Outstanding Alumnus. Nancy fondly remembers her time on campus and its tradition of service.
Through this scholarship, the Somes family honors their legacy and lifelong pride as Yoopers. The award supports incoming freshmen from Michigan’s Upper Peninsula with a minimum 2.75 GPA , encouraging them to pursue their education at LSSU and carry that legacy forward.
