My education at LSSU was a great medley of direct mentorship from my professors and access to research opportunities. With a small class size and access to new technology, attending LSSU was the right choice. Additionally, scholarship opportunities made it an easy decision to pursue this type of personalized environment to pursue my educational goals.

Making the decision to move away from home and going to LSSU was easily one of the best decisions I have ever made. In High School, I was very much within my own shell. And in the five years that I spent at LSSU, the environment that Lake State had to offer, certainly changed me for the better. I broke out of my shell through the involvement on campus that I was lucky to be apart of through several different organizations and departments at LSSU. That involvement in turn, allowed me the chance to see new opportunities to get my schooling paid for through scholarships set fourth by generous donors. All in all, the five years that I have spent at LSSU were easily some of the best five years of my life. The relationships that I have gained and experience that I have obtained has been so valuable to me.

The education and training opportunities that became available to me were very diverse, due to the instructor’s connections, we had the opportunity to attend training classes instructed by Officers from FDNY and other departments around the country.  Our hands-on learning provides people in all disciplines the real-world skills needed to succeed in any First Responder Role they may choose. I had the opportunity to participate twice in the Inter-professional Training Scenario that showcases emergency response by Police, Fire, EMS, and Nursing Students both as a participant in the Fire role in 2023 and as the overall Incident Commander in 2024.

During my time in the program I learned more than I knew was possible, I made friends with people who thought the same way as me, and found professors who would positively impact my life. Other opportunities I stumbled upon were volunteering at the Special Olympics Winter Games as a part of medical staff. I also completed 210 hours of internship/observation at MyMichigan Rehabilitation over the Summer 2023 semester. I can confidently say I learned a lot in the classroom, but my internship and volunteer experiences that I completed prepared me the most for applying to PT school.
